SEO: Recession Proof your business with SEO

Search Engine Optimisation is known in short as SEO. It refers to the process of editing and organizing the content of either a particular webpage or an entire website. It involves improving the volume as well as the quality of traffic that is directed to a website from search engines.

If you want your website, whether it is old or new, to become a success then you need the help of SEO. What this will do for your website is it will improve where your website appears within the search engine results pages. The search engines such as Google, Yahoo and MSN are one of the primary ways in which websites receive traffic. It is said that as much as 90% of people worldwide who use the Internet find the websites that they visit through performing a search of a selection of keywords. This is the exact reason as to why websites that have good listing positions will see a dramatic increase in the amount of traffic that they receive. Sadly many websites often appear poor in the search engine rankings, in some cases they aren’t listed at all as they fail to consider how the search engines actually work.

As the owner of a business you need to understand the importance of getting your website listed organically within, ideally, the first two pages of Google. The reason that I only say the first two pages is because; well think about when you perform a search, the results that most of us look at won’t go past the first two pages. So if you aren’t featured on these pages, your website is unlikely to bring in new business which defies the point of it existing in the first place.

SEO acts as an Internet marketing strategy. It considers how search engines work as well as what people search for. So optimising a website primarily involves editing the content and HTML coding of the site in order to increase its relevance to specific keywords and in order to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines.

When it comes to marketing your business online, there is no better way than through the use of search engine optimisation. It drives quality traffic to your website as well as increases your brands online presence in order to increase the future pipeline of sales, which in effect helps you to dominate your competition. Also SEO is now relatively inexpensive compared to other marketing mediums so this proves there is no better time than now to get into SEO.

When it comes to the actually optimising of your website there are two ways in which you can go about doing this. These two ways are known as either on page optimisation or off page optimisation. So let’s take a closer look at each of these aspects:

On page SEO is all about taking care of and updating your actual website. Once your website has been created you don’t then simply leave it to its own devices; you need to keep working on it to make sure that it doesn’t slip down the search engine results pages and to also ensure that everything contained within your website is up-to-date. So what does this involve? On page optimising involves checking the title tags and Meta descriptions to make sure they contain the keywords associated with your website. You also need to make sure you optimise the text featured within your website to give it keyword saturation. On top of this it is also important that your website contains a sitemap and footer text, otherwise known as CMS (content management system).

On page optimisation basically refers to anything that appears on your actual website. So if every week or every month you update the content that appears on your website this is known as on page optimisation. If your site sells electronics you may want to update content on the latest gadgets and products on a regular basis.

Off page optimisation on the other hand revolves around creating links back to your website. This is all about promoting your actual website through means such as article promotion, creating blogs and through pay per click campaigns. You need to create compelling content that is fresh and unique and that people will find helpful in order for them to click your link to take them back to your website.

Both on and off page optimisation techniques need to be applied to your website in order to give it the best possible chance of success. So make sure you get your website noticed with the help of an SEO strategy.
