SEO Secrets Revealed

In many cases SEO consultants are very protective of their search engine optimisation solutions. They claim that their knowledge is purely for their IP. However I believe in transparent search engine optimisation; a client should know what work a professional is performing on their website. For this reason within this article you will find SEO secrets that some search engine optimisation companies will not want you to know...

SEO Secret 1
Don't over optimise your website

Many websites have recently been penalized for having overly optimised sites. As an attempt to stop this from having Google has recently changed there algorithms by introducing an over optimisation filter which detects sites with far too much optimisation. In the past Google and other search engines used to place far too much of a great emphasis on keyword density. This often caused sites to use excessive keyword repetition and keyword stuffing in title and Meta tags and keyword stuffing in ALT tags. To stop this from happening you need to write for the user first and then sprinkle keywords through the syntacts of your writing for search engines. To strengthen this, bold and underline keywords you are optimising for. This is called strong tagging; just make sure you don’t over do it.

SEO Secret 2
Don't optimise for too many keywords

If you optimise for too many generic keywords on one page within your website your chance of ranking high within the search engines becomes unrealistic. You will get better results if you concentrate on a certain word for a certain page. An example of this comes with a website that I recently optimised. The site was focused around weight loss and although the site was dominating the search rankings for all the major keywords in the category, we learned early on that we were optimising too many generic keywords on one page. For example we optimised one page for diet and weight loss but when we removed diet, weight loss jumped straight from four to two. This made a big difference to our traffic as the majority of traffic is in the first 2 results

SEO Secret 3
Utilise a blogging and a well organised internal linking structure

This is a great search engine optimisation secret if your website has long tail keywords. The reason behind this is the fact you can use the main pages of your website for your generic keywords and then use your blog when it comes to long tail keywords, just make sure you include links back to your actual site! What you will find with this is many long tail keywords will bring far more traffic than your generic keywords. Also you will notice that blogging sites will get indexed faster, which will build up traffic to your website at a far more rapid rate.

With your blog articles you will be able to link keywords back to pages of your website that you are optimising for generic keywords. Going back to the example of weight loss, you should link blogs about weight loss back to the home page of your website; Google will see the home page more relevant to the term weight loss. When it comes to internal linking however you should look towards Wiki. They are the kings when it comes to internal linking and with good reason or should I say good reasons. There are two factors as to why wiki is ranked so high within the search engines, the first reason is the fact Google trusts them and the second reason is because of their internal linking. Internal linking is key when it comes to getting a highly rated place within the search engine results pages so make it part of your SEO.

SEO Secret 4
Get High Page Rank sites to link to you

This is great for getting noticed by the search engines but is a very difficult task if you are a new website, so how do you go about doing this? The easiest way that you can achieve this is to offer free content in exchange for a link or to give them free tools that they can use on there website. If you have an electronics site you may want to offer some kind of content that will be helpful for their business. In many cases when you are a new website you will often need to give first in order to receive. However links from high page rank sites will give you strong link reputation and help you achieve a high page rank.

SEO Secret 5
Create Contextual links

If you want to rank highly on search engines then you need relevant and contextual links. For instance if you are a weight loss site you would place a link back to weight loss. Weight loss would be in anchor text and it needs to have a relevant title. If that link is coming from a weight loss or diet relevant site it will be considered a contextual link and will help you rank highly.

These are the main secrets and some of the main points that revolve around search engine optimisation. So keep them in mind next time you are implementing an SEO campaign.
